About this course
The Quran & Sunna consist of decisive and interpretive texts. The decisive texts are clear, have only one possible meaning, do not need interpretation, and have no apparent contradictions. In contrast, the interpretive texts have more than one possible meaning and may seem to contradict other interpretive texts. Usul al-fiqh is the study of how the scholars interpret such verses and hadiths and provide us with rulings for daily life. We will study the methods of the imams and examine case-study rulings on how they applied their usul.
